Endocrinology is the medical specialty that studies and treats conditions of the organs that secrete hormones. Different hormones control a wide range of body functions, so an endocrinologist may be involved with a number of problems, from sexual development to osteoporosis.
An endocrinologist will make diagnoses based on a combination of physical exams, patient interviews, family histories, blood and hormonal tests, and fine needle aspiration biopsies, if appropriate. In some cases, MRI, CT scans or other imaging tests may be done. Some hormonal conditions may require only regular monitoring, while others may be treated with medication, surgery or hormone replacement therapy. Endocrine specialists work closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, immunologists, urologists, gynecologists, ophthalmologists and general surgeons.
We provide evaluation and management of a wide spectrum of endocrinological and medical disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
