Endoscopic Brow Lift
Definition
An endoscopic brow lift is a type of facial plastic surgery that helps minimize signs of aging in the forehead area and high on the bridge of the nose. These are commonly referred to as “frown lines.â€
Unlike a traditional brow lift, a plastic surgeon will remove excess skin in the brow area of the face and smooth the remaining skin to give you a more youthful, refreshed look.

Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?
Women and men in good health who want to give themselves a younger look and slow the appearance of aging are good candidates for a brow lift. Since an endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure, there are fewer risks than other plastic surgery procedures, but you should have realistic expectations.
You must be candid about your health and any other questions your plastic surgeon may have during your initial consultation.
Before the procedure
A plastic surgeon will take time to discuss the endoscopic brow lift and any associated risks. We will also require you to sign a consent form attesting that you understand the surgical procedure and any risks before proceeding.
Once your brow lift is scheduled, surgeons may suggest you take certain medications and/or adjust the ones you currently use. To minimize the risk of bleeding, avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements before and immediately after your brow lift, and quit smoking well before your surgery.
Since a brow lift is an outpatient procedure, we recommend you have a friend or family member drive you home and spend the first night with you to help monitor your recovery.
After the procedure
Once the brow lift procedure is complete, your forehead will be taped and perhaps loosely wrapped to prevent swelling and bruising. There may also be a thin tube temporarily placed to drain away any excess blood and fluids.
Your surgeon will provide detailed instructions on how to care for the surgical site(s) following surgery, any medications you should take and specific things to look for around the surgical site(s). They’ll also discuss your general health and arrange an appointment for a follow-up exam.
Potential side effects
Risks of an endoscopic brow lift include:
- Anesthesia risks
- Bleeding
- Blood clots
- Correctable hair loss at the incisions
- Dryness
- Eye irritation
- Infection
- Unfavorable scarring
Outlook (prognosis)
Regular activity can be resumed after about a week of rest, but you should avoid strenuous activity and direct sun exposure for a while. You may experience bruising and swelling in the affected area, as well as itching, numbness and hair loss around the incisions for a few weeks following the endoscopic browlift procedure. All of these symptoms should subside within a few weeks.
