ÍøºìºÚÁÏ reaches out beyond our hospitals and physician practices to share valuable health information with our community.

  • We offer health education programs and events and also partner in community efforts.
  • We support community programs to raise awareness of health issues and promote wellness.
  • We bring ÍøºìºÚÁÏ experts into the community to speak about health and wellness topics.
  • We offer disease-prevention information and screenings at community health fairs and other events.

Community support programs

ÍøºìºÚÁÏ's six health-related colleges within the University of Florida ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Science Center, the ÍøºìºÚÁÏ family of hospitals and many community volunteer partners work together to act as a health care safety net for many of the most vulnerable citizens of North Florida.

Caring for the state's neediest residents

ÍøºìºÚÁÏ is Florida's only health care system with two statutory teaching hospitals that are part of the state's "safety-net" hospital system, caring for people who have little or no medical coverage. ÍøºìºÚÁÏ spent approximately $233 million in unreimbursed charity care at cost. ÍøºìºÚÁÏ is one of Florida's largest Medicaid and charity care providers.

Leading the way in emergency, trauma and disaster response

ÍøºìºÚÁÏ is the only health care system in the Southeast with two Level 1 Trauma Centers.

Supporting community agencies and civic organizations

Our employees raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year with our community support efforts. Some of our many beneficiaries include the United Way, the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.

Charity care and social responsibility

As a non-profit, we are committed to being a responsible, accountable steward of our resources. In fiscal year 2023, we spent:

  • $252.6 million in unsponsored charity care and social responsibility efforts in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Leesburg, and The Villages.
  • $70.7 million on health professional education
  • $18.5 million on scientific and clinical research
  • $5.1 million for community and regional health services

Community ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Needs Assessment (CHNA)

Every year, ÍøºìºÚÁÏ produces a report that looks at the health care needs of our service regions. The report is federally required by the Affordable Care Act. The report gives us a deeper understanding of our community. It helps us to identify and develop efforts to:

  • Address health disparities
  • Improve health outcomes
  • Focus on social determinants of health to improve the health and quality of life of community residents

ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Jacksonville

ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Jacksonville works with the Jacksonville Nonprofit Hospital Partnership to complete the Community ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Needs Assessment. This assessment provides us with an in-depth look at the communities we serve and identifies the most significant and critical unmet health needs using an evidence-based approach. With this information, we are able to prioritize our specific efforts and resources. ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Jacksonville also works with other hospitals in the area to address significant health needs of residents.

ÍøºìºÚÁÏ St. Johns Community ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Needs Assessment

ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Flagler Hospital is a member of the St. Johns County ÍøºìºÚÁÏ Leadership Council, which is composed of over 30 community organizations in St. Johns County working together every three years to design and implement a county wide health needs assessment. We accomplish this through over the course of one year. St. Johns County health department is the host of many meeting, planning and implementation session over that time period. Throughout the year many focus groups and preliminary surveys are done at events and programs throughout the county culmination in one final county wide survey called "How ÍøºìºÚÁÏy is St. Johns County" the last assessment was done at the end of 2020, and is included in the link below.
