Infectious diseases professor named lead research administrator at UF veterinary college

, Ph.D., a professor of at the , has been named associate dean for research and graduate studies at the college after filling the post on an interim basis for over two years.

His appointment is effective immediately.

鈥淒r. Pascual has done an outstanding job serving in an interim role,鈥 said the college鈥檚 interim dean, , D.V.M. 鈥淗e will continue to oversee all aspects of research and graduate training in the college, and will work closely with the director of clinical and translational research, , and the director of graduate education, , as well as administrative staff in our Office of Research and Graduate Studies, to carry out the college鈥檚 research mission.鈥

A professor in the college鈥檚 department of infectious diseases and immunology, Pascual鈥檚 research focuses on mucosal immunology and vaccines. A major emphasis of his work is to develop a naso-oropharyngeal livestock vaccine for brucellosis and develop therapeutics to treat autoimmune diseases. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology.

After receiving his undergraduate degree at UF, Pascual received his master鈥檚 degree and his Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, including an NIH hypertension training fellowship and NIH immunology fellowship. He subsequently served on the faculty at UAB and Montana State University prior to joining UF鈥檚 faculty in 2012.
