Benjamin E. Victorica, M.D., professor of Pediatric Cardiology retires

Pediatric cardiologist Benjamin E. Victorica, M.D., a native of Argentina, is perhaps best noted for helping hundreds of newborns with complex congenital heart disease survive in the nearly 40 years of service he has dedicated to UF. He is retireing this summer, but plans to return on a part-time basis.

Victorica, who serves as the Virginia Root Sutherland professor of pediatric cardiology, has a special interest in cardiac catheterization and has been praised for training pediatric cardiologists from Spain and South America in this and other diagnostic procedures. He also is noted for co-authoring a pediatric reference book with UF Eminent Scholar Emeritus of Pediatrics Ira Gessner, M.D., that has been used in many medical centers to teach pediatric residents and fellows since its publication in 1993.

鈥淚 plan to go back and work part time in the Pediatric Clinic after I retire, do some traveling, play golf, and particularly enjoy life with my family and grandchildren,鈥 Victorica said.
